Citizen science in action: Skyon x NASA

We contributed light curve data as part of a citizen science initiative supporting NASA Exoplanet program.

Details

Overview

Citizen Science in Action: Skyon x NASA is a collaborative program that empowers the public to actively contribute to real scientific research. By joining forces with NASA, Skyon members and community participants gain the opportunity to collect, analyze, and share data that supports ongoing space and astronomy missions — turning curiosity into discovery.

Goals

  • Engage the public in meaningful scientific contributions

  • Build bridges between professional researchers and citizen scientists

  • Expand the reach and impact of NASA’s astronomy and space projects

Participants

Open to all Skyon members and wider community participants. No advanced expertise is required — just enthusiasm and willingness to learn. From amateur astronomers with telescopes to students using simple apps, everyone can play a part in advancing space science.

Features

  • Access to NASA citizen science platforms and datasets

  • Training sessions on observation methods and data reporting

  • Community challenges to track asteroids, variable stars, or exoplanet transits

  • Recognition of top contributors and youth participants

  • Opportunities to share findings at Skyon community events

Impact

By making scientific research accessible to all, Citizen Science in Action strengthens the connection between people and the cosmos. The project not only supports NASA’s ongoing work but also empowers participants to see themselves as explorers and contributors to humanity’s understanding of the universe.
